"David came to our attention by way of a personal recommendation and, since our wedding in Zurich last summer, we have recommended him many times over to both friends and family alike.
I have seen a real range of quality from wedding photographers over the years; some aren’t bad, others are excellent. David, however, sits in a category quite apart as his work is truly exceptional.
A thorough professional from the very outset, David was comprehensive in his correspondence and candid in his advice. As the event approached, he was diligent and meticulous in his preparations. Not being familiar with Zurich, David arrived in the city the day before our wedding in order to scout the various locations, choose his perspectives and assess possible lighting conditions.
A final face-to-face conference later that day ensured that he had covered all the bases and that, as a bare minimum, we would get the photos that we were hoping for. On the wedding day itself he far surpassed this minimum requirement as, from dawn to well after dusk, David was industrious in his efforts to record the day from start to finish.
He was appropriately attired for the event and venues, discreet and courteous with our guests, unobtrusive but also not afraid to give direction where necessary to get the desired effect.
On the formal side, David took charge of group photographs extremely proficiently, properly choreographing the shot and managing the crowd (and interested on-lookers!) accordingly.
Important milestones, such as the exchanging of vows and rings, the cutting of the cake and the after-dinner speeches, were discreetly captured with warmth and affection.
However, whilst we were delighted with the traditional compositions, we were utterly blown away by his natural shots. More so than the formal photographs, “capturing the moment” was a particularly important consideration for us when selecting a photographer - our single most important criterion in fact, but one that we acknowledged as being infinitely more difficult to accomplish. David is phenomenally innovative but at no time did we feel as though we were being stage managed.
There is no awkward artificiality about his work. Looking back at David’s photographs now gives a sense of not simply witnessing the event, but of actually participating in it too.
There is no sense of cold detachment nor of being removed from the subject or their surroundings. David has captured both the mood of the occasion – the emotion,
the joy and the laughter – as well as specific moments in time. His post-production work was equally punctilious with each picture amounting to more than the sum of its parts.
David worked conscientiously to edit and adjust where necessary, endeavoring to squeeze as much as possible out of every single frame.
He has succeeded in optimizing the location, subject, angle and lighting of every exposure to deliver some truly creative and empathetic arrangements.
It is not unusual for people to look back on their wedding day with great fondness and, sometimes, look at the proceedings through rose-tinted glasses. In recognition of this, and therefore with a heightened sense of objectivity, I honestly cannot think of a single area in which David could have improved upon the service he provided.
A sterile record of events this is not. The results are absolutely breathtaking and perfectly encapsulate our own memories of the day, enhancing them even by capturing moments that we had actually missed ourselves.
My view is that this is precisely what one’s wedding photos should seek to achieve: David has succeeded in portraying living moments in time and we could not be happier with his work.”
